Why a screenshot is not the same thing
Pasting a chart into a chatbot feels like analysis. It mostly isn't — the assistant sees one picture and whatever you chose to tell it. It cannot know this is the fourth time this month you traded this pattern, that you are 0 for 6 on it, or that you set a smaller stop today. It fills those gaps with confident generalities.
A connected journal changes what the assistant is. It stops being a commentator and becomes something closer to a training partner that watched every session you ever traded.
Questions it can answer that you cannot

Figures come back already computed by the journal, so the assistant is not doing arithmetic on raw rows — which is where wrong numbers come from.
Read-only by default
The connector cannot place a trade, change a price, delete anything, or touch your settings. Your tags, setups, playbooks and scores are untouchable too — those are what the analytics are computed from, and an assistant filling them in would mean the numbers were partly measuring the assistant.
There is exactly one thing you can allow, and the box stays unticked until you tick it: letting it write in three journal fields — your plan for a day, your reflection on a day, your reflection on a symbol you traded. Where you have already written something it has to show you and ask first, everything it writes is marked as its work, and one click restores your previous text.
Works with any client that speaks the standard
This is an ordinary remote MCP server, not something built for one vendor: HTTPS, Streamable HTTP transport and OAuth 2.1, which is the combination assistants ask for. - How do I connect Claude to my trading journal?
- Add https://api.trandence.com/api/mcp as a remote MCP connector in Claude, then approve it on a Trandence page that names the app. Setup takes about a minute and the full guide covers both Claude and ChatGPT.
- Does the assistant get to change my trades?
- No. Access is read-only by default, and even with write permission granted an assistant can only put text into three journal fields — your plan for a day, your reflection on a day, and your reflection on a symbol you traded. Trades, prices, tags, setups, playbooks and scores can never be altered through the connector.
- What can I actually ask it?
- Questions you could not answer from memory: how you have done on one ticker with one setup, which playbook actually holds up, whether you kept to your own rules last week, how much of your P&L went to commissions.
- Is my data sent anywhere else?
- Only to the assistant you connect yourself, on your own account with that provider. You approve each connection and can revoke it in one click.
